The First-Time Flyer Guide
If this is your first time joining the Academy, this guide should help point you in the right direction of how you can learn or how you can help teach others.
If you've just bought the game and aren't sure where to start, it might be a good idea to just watch a friend play or to watch a couple of beginner tutorials. The in-game tutorials are not to be ignored, either as they offer a great deal of introductory information to the player. If you need a refresher, these can be found in the main menu.
If you've gotten through the basics and want to start your first career path, these are some of the careers that we can offer training for:
- Basic Piloting
- Exploration
- Combat Missions/Bounty Hunting
- Powerplay Rank
- Mining (Laser/Subsurface/Core)
- Trading
- Engineering
It's worth keeping in mind: just because a discipline you're interested in isn't listed here doesn't mean we're not willing to help you learn it. We just might not have existing knowledge or expertise on the topic.
For beginners, the best careers that give you a solid foundation for the rest of the game are exploration and combat. These will teach you the vast majority of the game's controls and how ships handle both on and off planets. They are also fairly closed-loop, meaning you won't go somewhere, realizing you forgot a step and have to try again.
If this seems like a lot, don't worry! You don't have to learn all of these careers all at once, and, in fact, each of these can be profitable in their own way, meaning you can earn almost any ship in the game via any career. Some Commanders never leave their first career, which is a completely valid approach.
Some careers earn money faster than others, but it's important to know why you're working towards a goal before you get there. If you plan on doing a massive grind for a fleet carrier, but don't have a plan for what to do with it after, maybe spend more time exploring careers until you feel you start to outgrow your fleet and know what you want the carrier for.
If you already have a firm grasp on the game's mechanics and instead want to help other players learn these skills, reach out to CMDR OTACON239 to discuss becoming a trainer.
As the Squadron is currently small, training is done by request. To request training, you can reach out to these trainers to setup a training block:

If you're already personal friends with the trainer, no scheduling is necessary.
